Our Classrooms
We have named our two classrooms the “Laboratory” and the “Library.” The Laboratory is the first classroom where students will participate in math and literacy centers, as well as other work throughout the week. The Laboratory is also home to our parent station, parent information board, as well as the cooking/science center. The Library is where we will have our morning and closing meetings, and where we will gather for Writer’s Workshop.
Groupings
We will begin and end our day in a large group of 40 students for our morning and closing meetings. Math and literacy centers, as well as specials, will be done with a group of 20. Writer’s Workshop is a quiet time in our day and we have decided to teach it together in a large group of 40 in order to maximize our efforts in conferencing with students. Parents or teachers may pull some small groups or individuals for conferencing into the Laboratory during our writing time.
There are three sets of different groupings (labeled 1-2 in this schedule) for reading groups, math groups, and specials. All students are in a reading group 2 x per week and a math group 2 x per week to work on individual skills. These groups change frequently (at least every three weeks) based on student individual needs.
